The Simplicity of Vintage Cycles

Vintage Bicycles Done Proper :: Corvallis, Oregon

Simplicity is the Key to Successful Living; Artwork by Nick DewarThe Simplicity of Vintage Cycles:

Born of my affinity for steel-framed road bicycles.

An homage to vintage bicycles and the craft of their restoration.

Vintage bicycles, to me, are those frames crafted from what I consider to be the golden age of cycling—from the 1960s to the very early 1990s. Those most particularly stunning are the medium- to high-end frames crafted by hand in France, Italy, Japan, England and America. Of course, there are plenty of exceptions. These are nobody’s guidelines but my own, and I am certain you will get a different answer from each person you ask what vintage means to them.

My goal and desire is to keep these fine machines, each with their own personality and spirit, on the road and cherished for as long as possible. I spend hours meticulously repairing and restoring these classics and bring them into acceptable riding condition.

Because these machines are older does not mean they are of a lower quality. In many instances, the construction, components and flair they possess are better than their modern counterparts. These bicycles have a small, but growing cult following and I believe they always will as they are cherished for their simplicity in frame materials, components and mechanics.

As for me, I am a self-taught (books, videos, workshops and advice from others) bike mechanic. This is my hobby and it is a work in progress. I do not claim to know everything about bikes, their history, every restoration technique or wrenching in general, I only know what I like and I humbly present that to you for your viewing.

I hope you enjoy what you see and read here.
